“It feels real, real good to get a victory, especially with the way we got it done,” said MSU head coach Greg Kudrna. “We stayed with it, and found a good flow that included some big time performances from our freshmen.”
Trailing 46-32 with 13:32 remaining in the game, the Bobcats went on a 27-11 run to take 59-57 advantage at the 3:22 mark on a Burrows basket. The ten-minute run by the Bobcats was ignited by Burrows and Goodman, who notched 11 and five points, respectively.
The score was tied twice in the final 2:48, before a Goodman trey gave Montana State (8-15, 2-8) a 64-61 advantage with 2:18 left. Sacramento State (7-17, 3-8) pulled to within 66-65, before MSU’s Briana Fields converted a three-pointer with 40-seconds remaining to secure the win.
“We never got down on ourselves,” Kudrna said. “We found something that worked and stayed with it. It was great to see our bench step-up.”
Montana State shot a red-hot 70 percent from the field in the second half, and finished shooting 52 percent for the game. The Bobcats also went 50 percent from long distance in the second stanza, as well.
MSU was led in the win by Burrows with a game-high 26 points, while Buckless chipped in 13, Alyssa Nelson 11 and Goodman 10. The Bobcats out-rebounded Sacramento State 29-27 and were paced by Burrows with seven and Buckless with six.
Sacramento State, who built a 16-point margin in the opening period, was paced by Cindy Alldrin with 23 points, while Kim Sheehy added 15 points- all from three-point range.
Montana State will play at Portland State on Thursday.
