Bobcat Skiers Finish Fifth at New Mexico Invitational

Denver won the team title with 435 points, followed by Colorado 409, New Mexico 405, Utah 387.5, MSU 299, Nevada 286.5, Western State 178, Whitman 165, Alaska-Anchorage 83 and Boise State 73.
MSU received its best performance on the weekend from Many Bowden, a native of Cumberland, Maine, who placed fourth in the women’s five-kilometer freestyle race in a time of 18:08.6. She was followed by teammates Fraser Opel, 15th, 19:16.6; Rachel Goldstein, 17th, 19:23.2; and Karoline Teien, 21st, 19:56.0.
MSU was without the services of top nordic standout Emily Robins.
In the men’s 10-kilometer freestyle, the Bobcats were paced by Mark Iverson, who placed tenth in a time of 30:45.0. Also contributing for MSU were Jackson Harris, 17th, 31:44.5; Nathan Park, 19th, 32:14.5; and Chris Coe, 22nd, 32:41.4.
In alpine action, Cory Harris led the Bobcats with a 14th place showing with a two-run total of 1:42.82 in the slalom. He was followed by Dan McKay, 19th, 1:44.21; and Tyler Smedsrud, 33rd, 2:05.70. Don Brockett and Robbie Massie did not finish the event.
The women’s slalom event was postponed due to weather.
MSU will host the NCAA Western Regional, Feb. 25-26.
