“We played a great two minutes and really attacked at the end of the first half to get back into the game,” said Bobcat head coach Greg Kudrna, referring to MSU’s 6-0 in the final 3:44 of the opening stanza to close to within 26-24 at intermission.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t sustain it in the second half,” Kudrna added.
Montana (15-6, 8-0) opened the second period with a 9-0 run. The Lady Griz built the lead to 47-30 at the 11:59 mark on a Crystal Baird bucket. Montana State (7-14, 1-7) fought back to cut the margin to 51-44 with 5:30 remaining. Montana answered with a 15-0 run to secure the victory.
Montana State was led in the loss by Kati Burrows with 13 points, while Alyssa Nelson also hit double-digits with 11 points, including a three-of-seven effort from three-point range.
“Montana played a great game,” Burrows said. “It’s very frustrating because we’re so undersized. We also lacked taking care of the ball.”
The Bobcats finished with 21 turnovers, while Montana recorded 12 miscues. For the game, the Lady Griz shot 50 percent from the field, including 62 percent in the second stanza.
Montana State claimed a narrow 31-29 advantage on the boards. Burrows paced the Bobcats with seven rebounds, while Juliann Keller notched five for Montana.
MSU will host Northern Arizona on Thursday.
