Bobcats Top Carroll at Buzzer

Ja'Ron Jefferson's three-pointer at the buzzer gave Montana State a hard-fought 78-75 win over Carroll College in Bozeman on Thursday.
Jefferson's three-pointer broke the game's ninth tie, and helped the Bobcats overcome a five-point deficit in the game's last two-and-a-half minutes. "When I caught it and I released it, it felt good," said MSU's senior guard. "We just wanted to run the clock all the way down below five seconds and get off the last shot."
After falling behind by 75-70 on a Jeff Hays jumper, the Bobcats called a timeout. Marvin Moss rebounded a missed three-pointer by Casey Durham against Carroll's packed-in zone and laid it in to cut Carroll's lead to three. Jefferson converted the first free throw of a one-and-one after a Bobcat stop, then rebounded his own missed free throw on the second shot. After Nick Dissly missed a triple Al Beye converted a thunderous follow dunk to tie the game.
On the ensuing possession Beye blocked a Ross Gustafson shot, setting up MSU's final possession. Jefferson held the ball, then worked it to Casey Durham, who got it back to Jefferson for his buzzer beater.
Durham had nothing but praise for both teams following the game. "I'm not going to bash my guys," Durham said after his 234th career win, "I'm going to praise Carroll College. They played a great game."
MSU led by 12 on two occasions in the first half, but Carroll battled back to within five at the break. Both teams shot the ball well, MSU hitting 55% of its shots and Carroll 52%. "Both teams shot so well, there was a time neither team could get a stop and both teams hit a lot of threes."
Sinan Guler led the Saints with 27 points and six assists. "(Guler) is an outstanding player," said Jefferson, who had 16 points and six assists for the Bobcats. "He's great coming off screens and he's such a good passer. This was a fun game to play in. They are a really good team."
Montana State raises its record to 3-4 with the win. Carroll remains 10-1, as Tuesday's contest was an exhibition for the Saints.
