Morton Has Hot Hand as Montana State Women Fall

“We struggled a little with their athleticism,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We also had a let down in our transition game. Defensively, we have some work to do.”
Morton, a graduate of Bozeman High, connected on 8-of-15 from the field, including three three-pointers. Also in double-digits were Nubia Garcia 14 and Amanda DeHaan 12.
“I was very excited with our post play,” Binford said. “We got 33 points out of them, and as a unit, it was their best game.”
St. John’s (10-2) led 37-24 at the 4:37 mark of the opening stanza on a Greeba Barlow layup. Montana State (0-11) closed the gap to 43-37 on a Morton jumper and trailed 45-37 at intermission.
In the second half, the Red Storm surged to a 12-point advantage, before the Bobcats answered to pull to within 57-52 at the 13:42 mark following a DeHaan layin. However, St. John’s rattled off a 16-2 run over the next four minutes to put the game away.
For the game, Montana State shot 44 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line. St. John’s hit at a 49 percent clip and held a commanding 47-29 advantage on the boards.
The Bobcats were led under the glass by Jenny Heringer with seven rebounds.
Junior Alyssa Nelson dished out a game-high seven assists. MSU also notched a season-high seven blocks, paced by Whitney Connolly with a career-high five stuffs.
