Bobcats Claim Third in Tourney

Marvin Moss scored 16 points and nine rebounds in a bounce-back performance, leading the Bobcats to a 75-71 win over San Jose State in the Consolation Game of the 2005 Holiday Stores GranTree Inn Classic.
After scoring only five points in MSU's first-ever first-round loss in the event, Moss rebounded with a solid showing. The sting of his previous outing, however, was not lost on the senior forward. "I was mad coming into this game," Moss said. "I should never have a game like (last night). Never."
After spotting San Jose State five quick points, the Bobcats took the lead at 14-13 on a Nick Dissly three-pointer with 13:29 remaining in the half, eventually stretching it to a 15-2 run.
The Bobcats maintained that lead until a 12-1 Spartan run midway through the second half put San Jose State momentarily in control. Back-to-back layups by Ja'Ron Jefferson keyed MSU's comeback, but back-to-back steals and the tenacious defense of guard Casey Durham keyed those layups.
Trailing 65-63 with 3:23 to play, Moss converted a layup, then Al Beye hit two free throws to give MSU the lead. Derrick Edmonds' three-pointer with 2:16 to play gave MSU control of the contest that it wouldn't relinquish.
Even with the win, Mick Durham wasn't pleased with his team's performance, and he communicated that fact clearly. "Coach is not happy with that win," Moss said. "We've got to learn to close games out."
Durham concurred. "Offensively we can't find any kind of rhythm, and we have to get it figured out pretty quick."
Al Beye earned All-Tournament honors for MSU (13 points, five boards, one block).
