Heringer Paces Bobcats at Kent State

“It was our most complete game of the season,” said MSU first-year coach Tricia Binford. “There were a lot of positives to take away from the game.”
Heringer, a graduate of Billings Central, connected on 5-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. In addition, she added a team-high eight rebounds.
Also in double-digits for Montana State (0-5) were Alyssa Nelson and Scotta Morton with 11 and ten points, respectively. Nelson chipped in a team-high five assists, while sophomore Amanda DeHaan tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
“We played a great second half and got to within four points of a very good Kent State team,” Binford said. “This game, despite the loss, was a step in the right direction. We need to continue with the effort next week.”
Kent State (4-1) was paced by senior Lindsay Shearer with 28 points and seven rebounds, while Tiffany LaFleur added 12 points.
The Golden Flashes held a 33-23 advantage at intermission and built the margin to 12 points, before the Bobcats rallied to cut the margin to 44-40 with 13-miuntes remaining, following a Nelson three-pointer.
Kent State answered with its own 16-2 run to put the contest away.
For the game, MSU shot 39 percent from the field, including a red-hot 48 percent in the second stanza. The Bobcats also converted 15-of-17 free throws, but committed 28 turnovers.
KSU, who outscored Montana State 38-18 in the paint, shot 40 percent from the field and out-rebounded MSU 41-36.
Montana State will host Long Beach State on Thursday night in Worthington Arena.
