Morton’s Career-High Not Enough for Bobcat Women

Morton, a graduate of Bozeman High School, converted 8-of-14 from the field, including four three-pointers. Also contributing for Montana State (0-10) were Jenny Heringer 9 and Whitney Connolly 7.
“We were very rusty offensively,” said first-year Bobcat head coach Tricia Binford. “However, I’m very excited with our defense. For the first time this season we held an opponent under 55 points and limited their shooting to 28 percent.”
The Bobcats, in search of their first win of the season, held a 36-31 advantage at the 8:37 mark of the second stanza on an old-fashion three-point play by Morton. However, San Diego (4-7) reeled off an 11-0 run over the next three minutes.
“The opportunity was there for the taking,” Binford said. “We just weren’t finishing. We didn’t produce, offensively.”
A Connolly three-pointer with 3:06 left pulled the Bobcats to within 47-46, but MSU would get no closer.
For the game, MSU shot 30 percent from the field. The Toreros won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding the Bobcats 51-39. Amanda DeHaan and Heringer led MSU under the boards with six rebounds, apiece.
San Diego was led by Tiara Harris and Kelly Winther with 17 points.
MSU will play the winner of No. 2 Duke/St. John’s on Friday night.
