Bobcat Women Come Up Short at CS Fullerton

“My heart aches for the girls,” said first-year Bobcat head coach Tricia Binford. “They deserved to win the game. They played hard, but we just didn’t get the final shot to fall.”
Montana State (0-9) took an 84-82 lead with 32-seconds left on a Scott Morton three-pointer. However, the Titans answered with a trey from India McDaniel with 21-seconds remaining. MSU had three chances in the final seconds, but couldn’t convert.
Freshman Nubia Garcia paced the Bobcats with a season-high 17 points, including a five-of-six outing from the free throw line. Also notching double-digits were Morton 15, Amanda DeHaan 14, Jenny Heringer 14, Whitney Connolly 13 and Alyssa Nelson 11.
“It was a great game and both teams did a good job,” Binford said. “We got a nice lead in the second half, and now we must learn to keep our intensity when we’re up.”
MSU took a 13-point advantage at the 17:17 mark of the second stanza. For the first time this season the Bobcats led at halftime 47-39.
CS Fullerton (2-8) was led by Amber Pruitt with 24 points and five rebounds.
For the first time this season, the Bobcats out-rebounded their opponents, owning a 40-28 advantage under the boards. MSU was paced under the glass by DeHaan and Heringer with seven boards, apiece.
MSU will play at the San Diego Surf-n-Slam Tournament, Dec. 28.
