Pilots Shoot Down Montana State Women

Morton, a 5-10 guard from Bozeman, led the Bobcats with 18 points, including a 6-of-13 showing from three-point range. Also in double-figures for Montana State (0-8) were Alyssa Nelson and Amanda DeHaan with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
“It’s great to see Scotta (Morton) step up on the offensive end,” said first-year MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “However, I felt the game was a step backwards. We need to do a better job defending the post. We also had too many turnovers.”
MSU held an early 16-12 lead at the 11:58 mark of the opening stanza following a Nelson three-pointer. However, Portland (3-5) responded with a 24-10 run to take a 36-28 advantage at intermission.
In the second half, the Bobcats closed to within 39-37 on a Morton trey at the 17:46 mark. Again, the Pilots answered with a 20-3 run to put the game away.
“We go on a nice run and get to within a couple of points, and then the bottom sort of falls out,” Binford said. “We need to find a way to stop our opponents’ momentum.”
Portland was paced in the win by Rachel Warren and Meagan Bermingham with 19 points, apiece.
For the game, the Pilots shot 52 percent from the field, while holding the Bobcats to 37 percent. Portland held a 36-33 advantage in rebounding. MSU was led under the boards by DeHaan with six rebounds.
Montana State will play at CS Fullerton on Monday night.
