Cowboys Earn Physical Win

Wyoming battered Montana State on the boards then bested the 'Cats from the free throw line in an 80-67 win in Casper on Saturday.
Wyoming outrebounded MSU 59-to-31 and converted 25 of 38 free throws -- including nine of 11 in the last 5:14 to earn the win. "They have a lot of athletic ability inside," Durham said. "It was men against boys in the first half, but I thought we battled much harder in the second half."
Wyoming answered a 24-20 Bobcat advantage midway through the first half with a 15-0 run to take control of the game, holding the 'Cats without a field goal in the last 10:22 of the half. Wyoming led 44-28 at the half, closing the stanza with a 24-4 run.
Wyoming did much of the damage from the free throw line. "That (foul trouble) never helps," Durham said. "I thought we fought through it pretty well."
MSU chipped away at Wyoming's lead, and with 2:34 to play Ja'Ron Jefferson toed the free throw line with a chance to trim the Cowboy lead to five. The senior missed both, though, and the Cowboys hit five of their last six charity tosses to seal the win.
Jefferson led MSU with 17 points, while Branden Miller had 11 and Marvin Moss 10 before fouling out. Freshman guard Brandon Ewing had 21 points and 11 boards for Wyoming, while Steve Leven had 23 points.
MSU returns to action Monday against Portland in Worthington Arena.
