Bobcat Women Face Portland and Fullerton

The 411:
The Montana State women’s basketball team will head west for a couple of non-conference games. The Bobcats will face the University of Portland for the 11th consecutive season, Saturday, Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. (MST) in the Chiles Center. MSU will conclude its road trip at Cal State Fullerton, Monday, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. in Titan Gym.
On The Air:
All Bobcat games can be heard on 103.5 KZMY-FM. Veteran sportscaster Mark Martello is currently sidelined with an illness. Saturday’s game will be called by Rich Burke of the Portland Beavers Triple A baseball club, while MSU’s three straight games in California will be handled by former Bozeman sports personality Jeff Lasky. Both games will begin with the pregame show, beginning 15-minutes prior to tip.

That Was The Week That Was:
The Bobcats dropped a pair of non-conference games in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, last week. Long Beach State won its fourth straight game with an 83-66 decision over Montana State. Junior Scotta Morton paced the Bobcats with a career-best 20 points, including a 4-of-7 effort from three-point range. Sophomore Katy Proietti came off the bench to notch a career-best 13 points, on 4-of-5 from the floor and three treys. In all, MSU received 25 points from its reserves, the most of the season to date. On Saturday, the Air Force Academy cruised past MSU 81-61 in front of 1,562 fans in Worthington Arena. Montana State had two players in double-figures, led by a career-best 18 points from sophomore Amanda DeHaan. DeHaan, a graduate of Manhattan Christian, fell one rebound shy of a double-double, with a team-high nine boards. Also in double-digits was Morton with 12 points, all coming from beyond the 19’9” arc.
Stat of the Week:
Montana State had a higher shooting percentage from three-point territory last week, then it did from the field, as a whole. The Bobcats hit at a 37 percent clip from beyond the arc, compared to just 35 percent overall.
The Scouting Report:
Portland is 2-5 overall, after falling to Big Sky opponent Eastern Washington 63-57, last Saturday in the Chiles Center. The Pilots were paced in the game by Rachel Warren, Whitney Grant and Meaghan Bermingham. Warren, a 6-3 junior from Australia, came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points, while pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Grant and Bermingham notched 15 and 11 points, respectively. UP is coached by Jim Sollars, who is in his 20th season on “The Bluff.”
CS Fullerton is 1-7 overall, after dropping a 70-63 decision at San Francisco on Sunday. The Titans were paced in the loss by India McDaniel and Amber Pruitt. McDaniel ended with 19 points, while Pruitt, a 6-1 senior, notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Fullerton’s lone victory was over Nevada.
