Bobcats Grab Win at UNC

When the deficit got big Mick Durham went small, and the result was an 83-69 win for the Bobcats at Northern Colorado on Thursday.
Trailing by as many as nine late in the first half, Durham inserted a small lineup featuring Marvin Moss at center and Carson Durr at power forward. The result was an 8-3 run to close the half, and a clue as to solving UNC's punishing inside attack.
"That small lineup allowed us to trap the low post," Durham said. "Our big guys didn't do a good job handline (UNC center Kirk) Archibeque and (forward Cory) Lowe in the first half in the low post."
The small lineup also paid dividends offensively, as MSU turn around a 6-to-8 assist-to-turnover ratio at halftime. The 'Cats had 12 assists in the second half to only six turnovers. "Branden (Miller) and Casey (Durham) play really well together," Mick Durham said. "That small lineup played well at the end of the first half, and we started them in the second half and got the lead back."
Carson Durr posted career-highs with 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists. He helped turn the game in MSU's favor, fijnding Marvin Moss for a layup with 10 minutes to play then nailing back-to-back threes that turned a 59-56 Bear lead into a 62-59 Bobcat cushion. Those shots keyed an 11-1 Bobcat run that set up the team's win.
"We had that huge run in the second half by finding five guys that would work together," Durham said.
The win raises MSU's record to 2-3 on the season, and drops Northern Colorado to 0-7. The Bobcats play at Denver on Saturday.
