All three BSU victories have come against the Big Sky Conference. Last week, the Broncos dispatched Idaho State and Sacramento State.
Boise State (3-0) took an early 14-4 lead and held the advantage before Montana State (0-2) used a 10-1 run to take its first lead at 25-23 on a pair of free throws by Alyssa Nelson at the 5:44 mark of the first stanza. BSU closed out the first half with an 8-0 run to take a 36-28 margin into intermission.
“Outside of the first few minutes of the game, I thought we did pretty well with our offense in the first-half,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Amanda DeHaan really did a nice job of being active and used her athleticism to keep us in the game.”
DeHaan, a graduate of Manhattan Christian, paced the Bobcats with 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. A 5-foot-11 sophomore forward, DeHaan connected on four-of-nine from the field and five-of-five from the free throw line.
No other Bobcat reached double-digit scoring figures.
BSU built its lead to 48-38 at the 12:53 mark of the second half, and the Bobcats would draw no closer.
Also hitting double-figures for the Broncos were Jessica Thompson and Jenna Galassi with 13 and ten points, respectively.
For the game, BSU forced 32 Montana State turnovers and collected 19 offensive boards. Montana State out-rebounded the Broncos 46-45, but shot just 27 percent from the field, while Boise State hit at a 36 percent clip.
“We got into a tough position with early foul trouble and had kids playing out of position,” Binford said. “In the second half, we had too many turnovers and our containment broke down and we put them on the line.
“We need to get back to the things that we can control,” Binford added.
Montana State will meet Marquette on Saturday at 5 p.m., in the consolation game, while Boise State will face future Big Sky Conference member Northern Colorado in the Wingate Inn Classic title game at 7:30 p.m.
UNC was a 57-54 winner over the Golden Eagles on Friday.
