Bozeman native Mandy Close scored a game-high 18 points, leading Oregon State to a 70-35 win over Montana State in Bozeman on Friday.
Oregon State held MSU to 17% shooting in the second half, and used a 14-0 and 28-4 run immediately after intermission to put away the 'Cats. Alyssa Nelson scored 11 points to lead MSU, although the Bobcats scored only 12 second-half points.
Montana State played with OSU through much of the first half. Close scored the game's first basket and spurred the Beavers to a 7-2 lead, but baskets by Nelson and Scotta Morton drew MSU to within a point. Amanda DeHaan scored with 9:25 left in the half to draw MSU to within 15-13, but that's as close as the Bobcats got the rest of the way. Tiffany Ducker started an 8-0 run with a pair of baskets to stake Oregon State to a lead it would not relinquish.
DeHaan scored seven points, but grabbed nine rebounds for the Bobcats. In addition to shooting just 26.5% for the game, MSU was undone by 20 turnovers and a 50-to-27 rebounding deficit.
Close was joined in double-figures by Kim Butler, who had 17, Karen Vickery's 12, and Anita Rivera, who had 11. Vickery grabbed 14 rebounds, while Casey Nash had 10 for OSU.
Montana State hosts the Wingate Inn Classic on November 25, featuring Marquette, Northern Colorado, and Boise State.
