Bobcats Fall to Illinois-Chicago in Alaska

Montana State fell behind by 13 points in the first half and couldn't hold a late lead in losing its season opener 69-64 to Illinois-Chicago on Thursday.
The loss drops MSU to the loser's bracket in the Top of the World Classic. The Bobcats host the host Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks on Saturday at 7:30 pm MST. Marvin Moss led the Bobcats with 13 points, while Al Beye grabbed eight boards and scored 10 points on four-for-four shooting.
Montana State missed four of its first five shots to fall behind 11-3, and eventually trailed 30-15 after a layup by Justin Bowen with 4:23 to play in the first half. The 'Cats drew to within 34-22 at the half, then used a 9-2 run to open the second half to get back in the game.
Nick Dissly's three-pointer with 7:15 to play tied the score, and Dissly made a layup moments later to give MSU a lead. The teams traded leads until Branden Miller's free throws gave the 'Cats a 62-59 edge with 3:10 to play.
Robert Bush started UIC's game-winning run with a putback basket after an offensive rebound with 2:43 to play, and after a Bobcat turnover Bush hit a three-pointer for the game's last lead change. UIC hit three of its four free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
