Kurt Michels Leads Bobcat Harriers at Mountain Region Championships

Junior Kurt Michels ran a great race for the Montana State Bobcats at the 2005 NCAA Mountain Region Cross Country Championships, finishing 34th respectively. Michels ran the 10,000-meter region championship race with a time of 32:03.5.
Tony Bachmann crossed the finish line 32-seconds later to claim 48th place in a time of 32:35.0.
As a team, the Bobcats finished 15th with 353 points.
MSU trailed Texas Tech’s 327 points, Southern Utah (319), Wyoming (244), Idaho State (233), Weber State (230), New Mexico (222), Air Force (195), Utah State (179), Colorado State (148), Northern Arizona (146), Brigham Young (86), Texas El Paso (79), and team champions University of Colorado (42). The Bobcat’s were followed by University of Montana (364).
Graydon Curry was the third Bobcat to cross the finish line, taking 86th place with a time of 34:05.5. Also scoring points for the Bobcats were Devin McDowell (90th, 34:17.3) and Michael Kapus (94th, 34:39.9).
One hundred-two runners competed in the men’s race, which featured 15 teams.
On the women’s side, tenth-ranked Colorado won the team competition (6,000 meters).
The Buffalo’s finished with 53 points and were followed closely by Brigham Young’s 59 points, Northern Arizona (93), Colorado State (110), Weber State (148), New Mexico (163), Utah State (188), Texas Tech (280), University of Montana (283), Air Force (284), Wyoming (290), and the Bobcat’s (298). The Bobcat’s were followed by Southern Utah (344), New Mexico State (389), University of Utah (396), Idaho State (409), Texas El Paso (433), and University of Nevada (467).
Johanna Nilsson of Northern Arizona won the women’s race in a time of 20:39.5.
The Bobcat’s finished in 12th place, scoring 298 points.
Elizabeth Driscoll paced the women, finishing in 34th place with a time of 22:42.6. She was followed closely by teammate Caroline Gottschalk, who took 41st place (22:51.6).
Also scoring points for the Bobcats were Jayme Larson (58th, 23:23.2), Marilee Woyth (82nd, 24:03.4), and Kayla Larson (83rd, 24:05.5).
