Bobcat Harriers Compete at NCAA Mountain Regionals

The top two team finishers, along with the top four individuals not associated with those squads will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Colorado and Brigham Young are the favorites on the men’s side, and according to Montana State head coach Dale Kennedy, Texas El Paso, Colorado State and Air Force are strong choices to receive at-large bids to the NCAA meet.
“If those five get into the NCAAs, that could really open the door for Tony (Bachmann),” Kennedy said, referring to MSU’s top performer this season.. “With a step-up from his performance at the Big Sky meet, he could possibly grab one of the top four individual spots and qualify for the national meet.”
The top 25 finishers on Saturday earn all-region honors.
“As a team, we’re looking for a top ten finish,” Kennedy said. “We have a lot of anxious freshmen who haven’t run at this distance. Everyone is going to have to have a great race. It will also be a great experience for the future.”
The Montana State women’s team will also be shooting for a top ten showing.
The Bobcat women will be led by sophomore Elisabeth Driscoll, who is coming off a tenth place showing at the Big Sky championships. Last fall, the Bozeman native garnered All-Mountain Region accolades after placing 22nd overall.
“We’re pretty strong from 1-4,” Kennedy said. “We’ll need to have a solid race from our top four kids, and hopefully, get a good performance from one of our freshmen. The women’s team has experience running this distance, so I’m excited to see what will unfold on Saturday.”
