Ask Mike Kramer who enjoyed Evin Groves' 112-yard rushing day last week the most, and he doesn't hesitate.
"Travis," he says of Travis Lulay, MSU's senior quarterback. And his reasoning is simple. "We told Travis all week that we would not need him to win the game for us. We told him we would not rely on him to put the team on his shoulders and carry it down the field in the last minute of the game."
Largely due to Groves' career-best performance, Kramer was true to his word. "You see Travis on film jumping up and down when Evin scores, congratulating him after every big run. That was a good feeling for Travis, and a good step for our program," Kramer said. "We're not going to become a running team this year, but we will in the future, and Saturday's game was a glimpse into that future."

MSU held Sacramento State to 68 yards passing, the second time an opponent has thrown for under 100 yards this year and the lowest output since Saint Mary's threw for one yard less in 2003.

Saturday's game marks a reunion on many fronts. Eastern coach Paul Wulff coached for Mike Kramer at EWU, taking over when Kramer left for Bozeman. MSU secondary coach Jimmy Lake played at Eastern, and has coached for both Kramer and Wulff. EWU running backs coach Joe Wade coached at MSU ('99), and offensive line coach Aaron Best played for Kramer at Eastern.

Saturday's game marks the first time MSU has played Eastern Washington in Cheney's Woodward Stadium since 1998. Ominously, the 'Cats have lost four straight in Cheney, and six of seven overall.

Mike Kramer has coached 51 times in Woodward Stadium, 22 times as an Eagle assistant and 29 as that program's head coach. Current Eastern head coach Paul Wulff has coached there 59 times, 34 as an Eagle assistant (29 under Kramer) and 25 as head coach.

Montana State has played six overtime games in its history, three against Eastern Washington. MSU won 28-25 in 1990 in Cheney, forcing overtime on a disputed play late in the game that set up the tying field goal. Eastern won 34-31 in double overtime in 1994, and staged a stunning 51-44 overtime win last year in Bozeman.

Saturday's game is televised by the Montana Sports Network, which includes ABC stations across the state, and KULR-8 in Billings.
