NEXT UP: The Bobcats will open the homestand against Idaho State on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., and conclude the regular-season with ‘Senior Night’ on Saturday against Weber State. The Bobcats have clinched a spot in the Big Sky Tournament.
THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS: The Bobcats dropped a pair of Big Sky matches in the Pacific Northwest, last weekend. Portland State handed MSU a 27-30, 30-19, 30-25, 30-16 setback in the Stott Center. Meggie Malyurek and Kim Stonehouse paced the Bobcats with 11 kills, apiece. Megan Zanto guided Montana State at the net with a match-high six blocks. Despite hitting a respectable .242 as a team, the ‘Cats couldn’t shut down the Vikings offense that hit at a .320 clip. Eastern Washington also handed the Bobcats a 3-1 setback on Saturday night with a 26-30, 30-23, 30-27, 30-28 victory in Cheney. THE SCOUTING REPORT: Idaho State is 10-16 overall and 4-8 in Big Sky Conference play. The Bengals will be looking to clinch a berth in the league tournament this weekend. ISU has been paced this season by senior Felice Yocopis, who is averaging a Big Sky best 4.62 kills per game, while adding 4.70 digs and a .211 attack mark. MSU defeated Idaho State earlier this season (3-0) in Pocatello. Weber State is 11-16 overall and 5-7 in Big Sky action. The Wildcats will play at Montana on Friday, before traveling to Bozeman. TOUGH AS NAILS: The Bobcats have played the toughest schedule in the Big Sky Conference this season, and maybe one of the hardest in the nation, as well. Five of MSU’s losses have come at the hands of teams ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 poll. Looking at this week’s poll, the ‘Cats have played #2 Washington, #12 Missouri, #13 Wisconsin, #16 Brigham Young and #18 California.
‘CAT OF THE WEEK: Sophomore walk-on Patti Anderson was named Montana State’s Player of the Week for her effort at Portland State and Eastern Washington. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Deer Lodge recorded 14 kills, ten digs, six blocks and a service ace, while hitting an impressive .392 from the field. Anderson had her best match of the weekend against Eastern Washington with a career-high 12 kills and five blocks, while hitting .450 from the floor.
