Bobcats Break Wildcat Hearts Again

Montana State's walk-off win at Weber State on Saturday came down to the narrowest margin. And Mike Kramer knows what decided it.
"It was a great ball game, full of every element you can find in a college football game," the exhausted but calm head coach said after MSU's stunning 27-24 win. "A game like this comes down to a lot of different variables. We had that one variable."
That winning variable wore number 14 Saturday, threw for 283 yards and rushed for 142 to lead his team to a fourth-quarter comeback for the sixth time in his career. "That was an effort by our quarterback that ranks as one of the top athletic achievements I've ever seen."
Weber State led 24-10 early in the fourth quarter, and the MSU offense penetrated the Wildcat red zone four times without a score. "We had some turnovers and some penalties," Lulay said. "It's disappointing, and it starts to get frustrating."
Lulay felt that frustration, throwing a pair of interceptions near the WSU goal line. Trailing by two touchdowns at the start of the fourth quarter, Lulay led MSU deep into Wildcat territory. On fourth-and-two, though, MSU jumped offsides. On the ensuing play, Lulay rumbled 31 yards for a touchdown.
"Weber State was in man-to-man, they've been playing man all year," Lulay said. "We were bunched up, we were in trips, and when you're playing man the running lanes open up."
On MSU's next possession, Lulay scored from one yard out on fourth down to tie the game.
The Bobcats forced a punt on WSU's next possession, but MSU couldn't capitalize. Toph Grenfell intercepted an Ian Pizzaro pass with 11 seconds left on the next possession, returning it to the Weber 41. Lulay found Tramaine Murray for 19 yards, setting up Jeff Hastings' 39-yard game-winner.
