Montana State senior Megan Zanto recorded her 1000th career kill at Montana State, but it wasn’t enough as Eastern Washington rallied for a 28-30, 30-23, 27-30, 30-20, 15-10 victory over the Bobcats in front of 1,256 fans in Shroyer Gym.
“It was all about inconsistency,” said MSU third-year head coach Miya Malauulu. “We had too many peaks and valleys. Eastern Washington was able to steady out at the end, and we didn’t”
Zanto, a middle blocker from Helena, became the 13th member of MSU’s prestigious 1000-kill club, recording 14 against the Eagles. In addition, she joins Karen Weyler as the only Bobcats in history to notch 1000 kills and 500 blocks.
Montana State (8-9, 2-2) was paced by Kim Stonehouse with 18 kills, while Kandice Kelly led MSU defensively with 24 digs. Zanto paced all blockers with a match-high six stuffs.
Eastern Washington (11-5, 3-2) was led by Lizzy Mellor with a match-high 26 kills, while Andrea Verdoljak added 24 digs.
Montana State will host Portland State on Saturday in Shroyer Gym.
