DISCUSS WITH DURHAM: Vol. II

From RR, Missoula: Carson Durr has always been a fan favorite, at 6-5 last year he played both forward positions. What do you see as his role this year:
Mick Durham: "I think Carson Durr will give us very solid minutes off the bench at the three spot and as an undersized four man. The good thing about Carson is that he understands his role, he really works hard, and gives us quality minutes. He struggled with his shot last year, so I think have the summer to work on that has been good for him."
From RR, Missoula: With the advent of internet chat rooms, message boards, recruiting sites, and general rumor mills since you began your head coaching career, how have they effected your job as head coach of a D-I program?
Mick Durham: "As far as recruiting sites go, you really can't keep kids hidden in this part of the country any more. A case in point is Jack McGillis. The internet had to play a big factor in him getting a scholarship offer from an out-of-state school. I think the chatter has always been there, but now there's somewhere people can go and read about what's going on and participate if they want. I'd be surprised if many Division I head coaches read what their own fans are talking about, but I check out (sites on) the schools we're playing sometimes. You can find out about injuries and that sort of thing every once in a while. But, I know the players get on there and maybe they know more about how people feel than players in the past did. That's an interesting twist."
BG: What do you expect from Ryan Holmes this year? Is he ready to step into a bigger role?
Mick Durham: "I think Ryan has a chance to be a major contributor for this team. He gained valuable experience last year, and played in some important games. He's had a nice off-season."
RR, Missoula: With five returning starters, are the starting spots this year already predetermined?
Mick Durham: "We'll definitely mix and match lineups in the preseason to keep things competitive, but I'd say right now the starting jobs are those returners' to lose."
RR, Missoula: Which teams, besides the 'Cats, do you like as favorites for the Big Sky Conference?
Mick Durham: "I have a feeling it will be a lot like football in that anybody can beat anybody. I think there will be some sleepers. NAU was really young last year, they'll be solid. I expect Eastern Washington to bounce back. And I don't think Portland State will slip as far as some people think."
