BACK ON THE ROAD: MSU will open the weekend at Weber State, Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah. The Bobcats will conclude play at Idaho State, Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in Pocatello.
TAKING A LOOK BACK: The Bobcats dropped a pair of five-game matches last weekend in Shroyer Gym. Eastern Washington rallied froma 2-1 deficit to post a 28-30, 30-23, 27-30, 30-20, 15-10 victory over MSU on Friday night. The Bobcats were paced in the match by Kim Stonehouse with 18 kills and 14 digs, while Megan Zanto added 14 kills, a .273 attack mark and a match-high six blocks. Zanto recorded her 1000th kill at MSU, while libero Kandice Kelly went over the 1000-dig milestone with a match-high 24 saves. On Saturday, MSU’s rally fell short as Portland State handed the Bobcats a 30-25, 30-22, 28-30, 22-30, 15-13 setback. Three MSU players reached double-digit kills, including Zanto and Stonehouse with 12 and Meggie Malyurek 12. Malyurek reached the 1,000 kill plateau against the Vikings.
THE SCOUTING REPORT: Weber State is 8-10 overall and 3-2 in Big Sky Conference play. Last weekend, the Wildcats dropped a 3-1 decision at Sacramento State, before handing Northern Arizona at 3-2 setback. WSU has proven to be strong on its home-court, notching a 5-1 record in the Dee Events Center, which includes being 2-0 in league action. The Wildcats are paced by Chelsea Bair and Brittany Bisaillon. Bair is averaging 3.44 kills and 2.68 digs, while Bisaillon is averaging 2.39 kills and 1.70 blocks per game. Idaho State is 8-11 overall and 2-3 in Big Sky action. Last weekend, the Bengals were swept at NAU and Sacramento State. On the season, ISU has been paced by Nikki Havens, who is averaging 4.04 kills per game. Idaho State’s top player Felice Yocopis has been sidelined with an injury.
TOUGH AS NAILS: The Bobcats have perhaps the toughest schedule in the Big Sky Conference this season, and maybe one of the hardest in the nation, as well. Five of MSU’s losses have come at the hands of teams ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 poll. Looking at this week’s poll, the ‘Cats have played #2 Washington, #7 Missouri, #8 Wisconsin, #13 California and #16 BYU.
‘CAT OF THE WEEK: Senior Megan Zanto garnered her second straight Montana State Player of the Week accolade for her effort against Eastern Washington and Portland State. For the weekend, Zanto averaged 3.00 kills and 1.40 blocks, while hitting .319 from the field. In MSU’s match against Eastern Washington, she recorded her 1,000th career kill. Zanto also became only the second Bobcat in history to notch 1,000 kills and 500 blocks.
