Allison, who was instrumental in the setup of the Department’s Academic Center, served six years with the Bobcats. She retired from her position two years ago, and an award was named in her honor. The Jill Allison Academic Award goes each year to the Bobcat team with the most improved grade-point average.
She will forever be missed. The accompanying obituary was printed in the Bozeman Chronicle on Tuesday.
JILL C. ALLISON
Jill Crossen Allison passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, encircled by her family. Jill had fought a courageous battle against breast cancer since April 1996.
Jill was born in Athens, Ohio, on Sept. 15, 1953, the youngest daughter of John and Aldine Crossen. She attended Athens (Ohio) High School and graduated from Lancaster (Ohio) High School, Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, and Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky.
Jill met the love of her life, Mike Allison, on Oct. 7, 1974, in Columbus, Ohio. They were married in Amlin, Ohio, on June 19, 1976. They had an opportunity to move to Montana in the summer of 1979 and have always considered the Gallatin Valley their home. Mike’s son, Rob, moved to join them in Manhattan during the summer of 1980.
After Rob joined their family, Mike and Jill began their family. In January 1981 they had a stillborn daughter, Michelle Lea. On July 23, 1982, their daughter, Chelsey Lyn, was born. Then on April 19, 1985, their son, Zachary John, was born.
Jill considered one of the greatest luxuries was that she “got” to stay home with the children when they were little. Jill’s greatest love was being a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was involved in numerous volunteer endeavors. Jill considered their children the greatest gift from God. She loved talking with them, listening to them, crying with them, laughing with them and hugging them.
During the spring of 1990 an opportunity presented itself and Jill was hired by Montana State University’s office of the registrar to work with the great students at MSU, and then during the fall of 1998 Jill became the academic coordinator for the great student-athletes of MSU. This was the position that she had until her retirement in February 2004. Jill loved her position as surrogate mother, mentor, confidant, advisor and friend to all the student-athletes.
Jill is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Michelle Lea; her grandparents, James and Marie Crossen and Frank and Melva Radcliffe.
She is survived by her husband, Mike of Manhattan; son, Rob of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter, Chelsey and son, Zach of Bozeman; her parents, John and Aldine Crossen; sister, Jonadine Randolph of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Janet Crossen and her family of Lopez Island, Wash.; mother-in-law, Jean Allison of Manhattan; brother-in-law, David Allison of Vernal, Utah; niece, Kay Anderson and great-niece, Kara Allison of Bountiful; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She also left behind many dear friends who helped make this fight against cancer bearable.
If you knew Jill at all, you will always remember the big smile on her face and the way she would always tell you what she really thought and what was on her mind. She loved telling jokes and stories and making people laugh.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Grace Bible Church.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure, Shodair Children’s Hospital in Helena, Bozeman Deaconess Hospice, or a charity of choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
She will forever be missed. The accompanying obituary was printed in the Bozeman Chronicle on Tuesday.
