MISSOULA--Larson finished in 17th place with a time of 23:06. Larson was followed by fellow bobcat’s Elisabeth Driscoll and Caroline Gottschalk, they both finished in 18th and 19th place respectively with times of 23:15 and 23:16. Kayla Larson finished in 23rd place with a time of 23:29.
The time gap between the first and fourth runner for the bobcats was only twenty seconds. Bringing in the fifth bobcat runner at 37th place was Marilee Woyth, with a time of 24:23.
Coach Kennedy was pleased with his young team. “We had four women run really well and we’re getting pretty competitive. If our fifth runner can close the time gap we’ll be that much more competitive. Jayme Larson a freshman continues to lead this competitive young team.” Kennedy also said that in a few years his women’s team will be making some noise.
On the men’s side the Bobcat Harriers were led by Kurt Michels who finished in sixth place with a time of 25:16, to lead the Bobcats to a fifth place finish.
Michels was followed by teammate Tony Bachmann who finished in 12th place with a time of 25:36. This was Bachmann’s first race of the year. Bachmann missed the Montana State Invitation due to illness. The third runner for the Bobcat men was Graydon Curry who finished in 22nd place with a time of 26:29.
The men’s team fielded a young team as well. They were led by two juniors Michels and Bachmann, while the rest of the bobcat harriers are either freshmen or sophomores.
Coach Kennedy was pleased with his two leaders. “It’s a young men’s team that’s trying to find itself, but Michels and Bachmann ran really well. Michels looks solid and Bachmann ran well for missing the Montana State Invitational, he’s a race behind, but he’ll be ready.
The Bobcats will compete in two weeks (October 15) at the NCAA Pre-National Cross Country Invitational in Terra Haute, IN.
