Montana State overcame Weber State's considerable inside advantage and a torrid Wildcat start in the second half to earn the team's first road win of the season, an uneven 76-67 win in Ogden's Dee Event Center.
"The guys are excited," said MSU coach Mick Durham, "and they deserve to be. This is a tough place to win."
Branden Miller scored 18 points and grabbed five boards, while Branden Miller scored 22 to pace the team's balanced attack. "We did a good job moving the ball and being patient tonight," Durham said. "That's something we haven't always done this year and we need to stay on top of, but I thought that was important tonight."
Weber scored on their first five possessions of the second half, four of those baskets coming from behind the arc, and took a 51-46 lead at 9:56. At that point, MSU scored on four straight possessions and seven of eight, including three three-pointers by Branden Miller. That run put MSU on top 57-55, a lead the 'Cats would not relinquish.
Marvin Moss keyed a quick Bobcat start, scoring MSU's first four points and getting seven in the first half. The Bobcats got some separation from Weber midway through the first half, taking an 18-11 lead at 10:59 on a Marvin Moss three-point play. The 'Cats held Weber State scoreless for 3:08, and eventually built a 31-20 lead on a Branden Miller basket with 4:28 to play in the half.
Weber responded with a defense-keyed run of its own to close the half. The Wildcats held MSU scoreless after Miller's short jumper, outscoring the Bobcats 4-0 in that stretch. MSU shot 47% in the first half, to Weber's 27%, and both team turned the ball over only four times in the first half.
