Eastern Washington Soars Past Bobcat Women

“I thought we played hard, but unfortunately we ran out of gas,” said MSU head coach Greg Kudrna. “That was one of our best starts of the season, but we had a hard time holding onto the lead.”
Senior Kati Burrows paced Montana State (6-11, 0-4) with 20 points on nine-of-13 from the field, while Alyssa Nelson established a career-high with 18 points.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 20-8 lead at the 13:33 mark on an old-fashion three-point play by Burrows. Eastern Washington (11-6, 4-0) answered with a 17-5 run to tie the score at 25-all on a basket by Felice Moore. The Eagles held a 35-33 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the lead changed hands six times, before EWU broke away on a Brandie Bounds three-pointer. The Eagles built the lead to 61-54 on a jumper by Joanna Chad and converted eight-of-11 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the win.
Eastern Washington was led by Moore with 21 points, while Julie Page and Stephanie Ulmer added 17 and ten, respectively.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 42 percent from the field. EWU went 48 percent from the floor and connected on 21-of-31 tosses from the charity stripe. MSU out-rebounded the Eagles 33-31. The ‘Cats were led under the glass by Burrows with nine rebounds.
MSU will host Portland State on Saturday night.
