Montana State Harriers Compete at Montana Invitational
9/30/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country, Cross Country
The Bobcat men’s team, who is ranked No. 29 in this week’s NCAA Cross Country poll, will be without the services of top runner Casey Jermyn. Jermyn, a senior from Plains, is nursing a leg injury. Kevin Clary, a senior from Kalispell, will return to the line-up following an illness. Clary, who is tabbed in MSU’s 2-3 spot, placed in the top five at last year’s Big Sky Conference championships.
“With Casey out of the line-up, it will be a challenge to beat Weber State,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “However, we do return the services of Kevin Clary, and our other kids have come along way in the past two weeks. It will be interesting to see how we do this weekend.”
Like the men’s team, the Bobcat women’s squad will be without its top runner in freshman Elisabeth Driscoll. Driscoll, who was named Big Sky Runner of the Week following her performance in her first-ever collegiate race, is out with a foot injury.
This week, the MSU women’s team was ranked ninth in the NCAA Mountain Region poll. The ‘Cats will look to all-conference performer Mayra Morgado and newcomer Ashley Hadway to pick-up slack in Driscoll’s absence.
“I’m really excited about our women’s team,” Kennedy said. “We were a lot closer to Weber State at the MSU Invitational then what I thought we would be. We entered that race with a lot of stress, and since then, we have settled down and we’re ready to see what we can accomplish on Saturday.”
Competing in the UM Invitational will be Montana, MSU, Weber State and Eastern Washington.
