Bobcat Spikers Host Sacramento State, Northern Arizona

HOME SWEET HOME: The Montana State volleyball squad will open its 2004 Big Sky Conference home schedule when they host Sacramento State, Friday, October 1 at 7 p.m., in the friendly confines of Shroyer Gym. The Bobcats will conclude their home stand when they face Northern Arizona, Saturday, October 2 at 7 p.m. Following this weekend’s play, Montana State will travel to Missoula, Friday, Oct. 8 for the annual ‘Cat-Griz clash.

CAT-CHAT: Montana State’s bread and butter -- blocking -- failed to establish itself last weekend as the Bobcats only averaged 2.00 blocks per game. The Bobcats had been ranked 20th in the nation before last weekend. MSU mustered only 1.40 blocks per game against Idaho State; however, the ‘Cats rebounded against Weber State with nine team blocks in three games. Junior Megan Zanto, who was ranked sixth in the nation in blocking last week, recorded 11 blocks on the weekend...The Bobcats have not swept the Idaho State-Weber State trip since 1984...Montana State has dropped four straight matches to Sacramento State, so Friday’s match against the Hornets comes at the most opportune moment-- the Big Sky home opener. The Bobcats have won their last nine league home openers in Shroyer Gym...Kamber Kelly notched two double-doubles over the weekend to run her total to nine on the season...The Bobcats got off to a quick start in both matches last weekend. In the opening frame against Idaho State and Weber State, MSU hit a whopping combined .417 from the floor, while limiting their opponents to .065...Defensively, Montana State had a nice weekend in the dig department. The ‘Cats out-dug both opponents and had at least three players in double-digit digs. As a team, Montana State averaged 18.88 digs per game against Idaho State and Weber State...Megan Zanto recorded her 350th block assist at Weber State, moving into third on the all-time MSU chart and 17th on the all-time Big Sky list... Kamber Kelly moved into 18th on the all-time Big Sky assists chart.
BOBCAT PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kim Stonehouse, a 6-foot outside hitter from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, was named Montana State’s Player of the Week for her efforts at Idaho State and Weber State. On the weekend, Stonehouse averaged 3.63 kills and 1.13 digs, while hitting .314 from the field. The sophomore had her best match of the weekend in MSU’s 3-0 victory over Weber State. Against the Wildcats, Stonehouse recorded 13 kills, a .500 (13-1-24) attack mark, five digs and three blocks.
