Bobcat Men’s CC Team Tabbed Second in Preseason Poll, Women Third

The Bobcats, who return Casey Jermyn, the 2003 Big Sky individual champion, as well as Jonathan Gibson and Kevin Clary, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively at last year’s league meet, garnered four first place votes and 43 points; however, perennial conference power Northern Arizona received 45 points and three first place votes.
“It’s pretty interesting that we received more first place votes then Northern Arizona,” said MSU head coach Dale Kenney. “NAU was a national power last season, so it’s nice to see our program getting mentioned with the best of the Big Sky Conference.”
The Bobcat women will have a new look this season. MSU returns only two runners with Big Sky experience. Anchoring the Bobcat women’s squad is senior Mayra Morgado, who placed ninth at last year’s Big Sky championships.
“I was a little surprised that the women were picked so high,” Kennedy said. “I think it goes to the respect that other coaches have for our program. We have a lot of new faces, so it’ll be interesting to see how the season plays out for our women’s squad.”
Voting is calculated by each team receiving seven points for a first place vote, six points for a second place vote, etc. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their respective teams. Below are the final results with the number of first place votes in parenthesis.
