Montana State Spikers Head to Buckeye Classic

Saturday’s match versus OSU will be played in Centerburg, Ohio, about 45-minutes north of the Ohio State campus. Friday’s matches are slated for St. John Arena.

It seems that the Bobcats just began their preseason slate, but this weekend marks the end of the non-conference schedule, as MSU opens its Big Sky Conference campaign at Idaho State on Sept. 24...Since Miya Malauulu has been involved with the Bobcat program (two years as head coach, and five as an assistant) MSU has posted an impressive 64-14 non-conference record...Saturday’s match against Ohio State will be played in Centerburg, a town that is northeast of Columbus. OSU freshman Ami Stevens hails from Centerburg, and the Buckeyes want to bring their show to a community that has supported them throughout the years...Montana State has never faced Northeastern University located in Boston, Mass., with an enrollment of 14,422...MSU’s two other opponents (Ohio State and Florida International) have a combined student-body of 89,043, which is about a tenth the population of Montana...Last weekend, MSU captured its own Holiday Inn Classic for the first time since 2001. The Classic came down to winning percentage as MSU, Boise State and Portland all had 3-1 records. The Bobcats recorded a .714 mark, while BSU and UP were at .688 and .667, respectively...MSU placed three student-athletes on the all-tournament team led by MVP Kamber Kelly, Meggie Malyurek and Raelene Purnell...MSU will face this week’s Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week in OSU’s Stacey Gordon, Saturday.
BIG SKY CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Kamber Kelly was selected as the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week after an outstanding all-around performance last week at the Holiday Inn Classic. Kelly, who was named tournament MVP, led the Bobcats averaging 11.43 assists, 2.86 digs, 1.79 kills and .79 blocks per game. The senior also hit .333 for the weekend and had her most complete outing against Portland with nine kills, a .389 attack mark, 55 assists, 16 digs and two blocks.
