Bobcat Spikers Shuffle Past Buffalo

“We wanted to see Kim (Stonehouse) raise her hitting percentage in the match,” said MSU second-year head coach Miya Malauulu. “She did a nice job staying patient and she just kept swinging.”
Montana State (5-1) jumped out to an early 10-6 advantage on a Malyurek kill in game one, and built the margin to 24-19 on a Stonehouse winner. The Bobcats won the game on an ace by LeAnn Kinvig.
“We did a great job passing the ball, and when we do that, Kamber (Kelly) has the opportunity to run all of our options,” Malauulu added.
In the second set, MSU stormed to a 20-9 lead and won the game following a Buffalo (3-4) hitting error. In the final game, the Bobcats again raced to a 14-3 lead after a Megan Zanto and Kelly block. Montana State won the match on a block by freshman Patti Anderson.
“Our depth played a key role in both of our wins,” Malauulu commented. “It’s been awhile since we’ve had good quality depth that can provide us with a spark.”
For the match, MSU out-hit the Buffaloes .227 to .033, while owning a narrow 10 to 9.5 advantage in blocking. Kelly, a senior from Roundup, chipped in 36 assists, seven digs and three blocks. Zanto ended the match with six kills and a team-best five blocks.
Buffalo was paced in the loss by Nikki Morzenti with nine kills and three blocks.
