* * * BUMPS AND BREAKS * * *
The Bobcats continue to struggle with injuries, particularly in key positions. Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Peder Jensen broke a finger on his left hand on Thursday, but team medical personnel to cast the hand, which allows Jensen to play. Jensen has performed admirably during camp as MSU’s top left tackle. Defensive linemen Clive Lowe and Ray Sebestyen remain sidelined with concussions.
* * * SCRIMMAGE QUICK FACTS * * *
Montana State’s first scrimmage of the fall is scheduled for 4 pm Saturday at Bobcat Stadium. Kramer indicated the “quick, fast” scrimmage will consist of around 60 plays.
* * * THE BEAL DEAL * * *
If you don’t know where to find sophomore utilityman Jimmy Beal this fall, you might not be able to. Beal will be on the move. “We’ll train him at receiver first, but he’ll also fill the role of fourth tailback and return man, and anything else we can think of,” said MSU coach Mike Kramer with a laugh.
Kramer said Beal is valuable because of his versatility, and because of other intangibles. “We’re using him this way primarily because he’s so smart,” Kramer said. “He’s a former high school option quarterback, so he can multi-task. He’s also very willing. He’s an open book.”
While Beal’s role won’t be defined within the structure of MSU’s offense, it has already been defined in a team sense, Kramer said. “With Jimmy, he’ll be where he needs to be on any given day to help the team. That’s the bottom line, and that’s Jimmy’s bottom line.”
