Bobcat Camp Report #8
8/26/2004 12:00:00 AM | Football
After a brief trial at safety, freshman Tyler Lulay found himself in a series of moves on Thursday that Bobcat coach Mike Kramer believes will strengthen MSU in the secondary as well as at receiver.
Redshirt freshman Andre Fuller moved from cornerback to safety Thursday, which precipitated Lulay’s move to receiver. The presence of Lulay and newly-reinstated receiver Michael Williams bolstered MSU’s depth at receiver, Kramer said. “We wanted to take a look at Tyler at safety, but he’s back at receiver, where we think he’ll be a fine player,” Kramer said. “He will fight for playing time.
Lulay and Williams will both play at the slot position, where starter Brandon Roosevelt has battled illness this week. “Those guys really give us some depth at a position where that’s become a concern,” Kramer said.
Fuller’s presence gives the Bobcats more athleticism at safety, Kramer said. “Andre has shown some athletic ability, but right now he is best suited for safety.” Kramer is pleased with the improvement of recent transfer Martin Henderson and true freshman Ryan Kelley. Senior Kahiam Hunter and redshirt freshman Kory Austin are currently listed first on the depth chart, but Kramer indicated that sophomore Eddie Smith is making progress from his hamstring strain.

* * * SCRIMMAGE SET FOR SATURDAY * * *
Montana State’s first scrimmage of the fall is set for Saturday, and the list of things Bobcat head coach Mike Kramer wants to see is not complicated.
“The only thing that has to happen Saturday is that I want to see how the non-starters in our program, the guys that are occupying spots in the starting lineup or on the two-deep that haven’t yet started a game here at Montana State,” Kramer said. “I want to see what level those guys riding with the ones and twos are playing at.”
Kramer said it will be among the quickest scrimmages he’s conducted. “It will 60 plays, max,” Kramer said. “It will be a quick, fast-paced scrimmage. We’ll take a quick look at the returning starters, an extensive look at the new starters, and a quick look at the young guys.”
Kramer wants to see a fast-paced session on Saturday. “I want to see us play fast and with absolute game-ferocity,” he said. “I won’t concentrate on blocks and missed tackles, but on energy and effort.”
* * * SEBESTYEN’S DAD BACK TO THE MIDDLE EAST * * *
Ray Sebestyen, sidelined for the next week with a concussion, has more on his mind than getting back on the practice field. Sebestyen’s father, Naval Supply Master James Sebestyen, has recently been stationed with his unit in Iraq. “He doesn’t say much about (being in Iraq),” said the younger Sebestyen, who communicates with his father by e-mail. “He’s on three straight days, so he keeps pretty busy.”
* * * HEAD BANGING * * *
The Bobcats are a little thinner on the defensive line this week because of a pair of concussions. Sophomore end Clive Lowe is out until Monday, while Ray Sebestyen’s Wednesday concussion will shelve the senior tackle for a week.
