* * * RECEIVER REVIVAL * * *
Mike Kramer likes what he has seen through the first week of camp from his receiver corps, particularly the three players that have ascended to starting roles. “Rick Gatewood, Chaz Guinn, and Brandon Roosevelt have really played well,” Kramer said. “They’re really seperating from the other receivers.”
The attributes of those three receivers, Kramer says, is obvious. “Fast, fast, fast,” he said. “We’ve really upgraded our speed at all three of those positions this year. Those three guys can really run.”
Bobcat receivers coach Junior Adams will also have another player to work with that can really run. Kramer said Tuesday that Jimmy Beal, who spent last fall at running back and was a defensive back in the spring, has moved to receiver. “He’s a guy that when you get him the ball he makes things happen,” Adams said. “He’s dangerous with the ball in his hands.” Adams says Beal will serve as a utility player who will train at the Z receiver position but who will be able to play all three spots. “I like his heart,” Adams said.
* * * SPECIALTIES * * *
It might be the sudden change to cooler weather, or just the time of year, but Mike Kramer’s attention has turned to special teams.
This week affords Kramer his first chance to fully evaluate the team’s place-kicking situation. “Travis Doroski is leading the kickoff race,” Kramer said. “He’s had several outstanding kicks. We won’t settle on a place kicker until the week of the opener. Tyler Bolton will back up Travis Lulay as the punter.”
Kramer also said that Dusty Daws’ effectiveness as a long snapper has increased since moving back to tight end. “
