Montana State Men’s Tennis Standout Named District VII All-Academic
June 2, 2004 – BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State men’s tennis standout Marek Gebicki has been a force for the Bobcats on the court this season. The sophomore from Lodz, Poland is also a factor off the court, as well.
Gebicki, who played at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles for MSU this spring, was named to the 2003-04 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VII At-Large Team.
Gebicki had the highest grade-point average among the ten student-athletes named to the squad. As a sophomore, he holds a 3.97 grade-point average in industrial engineering. Gebicki’s name will be placed on the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration— the highest athletic academic honor awarded at the collegiate level.
“Marek has done it all this season, and he has done so with class,” said MSU head coach Mike Phillips. “He helped win a Big Sky title; was named to the All-Big Sky First-Team; played in the NCAA Championships; and was an automatic entry to the NCAA Doubles Tournament, and now he has been honored for his work in the classroom. He’s a remarkable student-athlete.”
Thirty-seven student-athletes were nominated for the District VII academic award from 19 different institutions. District VII is comprised of NCAA Division I schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Also named to the 2003-04 CoSIDA Academic All-District VII At-Large Team were Max Bull, Denver, Ice Hockey; Kenny Burleson, Missouri, Wrestling; Ikaika Jobe, Saint Louis, Tennis; Martin Laird, Colorado State, Golf; Jeremy Lyons, Iowa State, Golf; Jon McNeely, Wyoming, Swimming; Matt Murray, Nebraska, Wrestling; Tyler Nixt, Iowa, Wrestling; and Mike Polidor, Ice Hockey, Air Force Academy.
