Allen Misses Bid for Hammer Finals

Montana State senior Jen Allen's career ended Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships by 13". Allen's hammer toss of 196-3 placed her 13th in the preliminary round on Thursday afternoonat Mike Myers Stadium in Austin, Tex., one spot from a top 12 finish that would have landed her in Saturday's hammer throw finals.
"She came up just short," said MSU coach Dale Kennedy. "Mike (Carignan, MSU's throws coach) said that she had a solid series, 190-feet, 196-3, and 192-feet. She was seeded 16th entering the meet, and finished three spots higher than her seeding. She had a solid meet at the end of an extraordinary career."
Allen finished just behind Holly Scherder of Missouri, whose mark of 197-4 landed her the last spot in the final round of competition.
