Phillips Named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year

“The guys are the ones that got the job done,’ Phillips said. “This is their award. I was just fortunate to see them play at a very high level this spring.”
The understated Phillips guided the Bobcats to a 17-5 overall record and an undefeated Big Sky Conference slate. In addition, he coached four All-Big Sky Conference first-team selections, as well as the 2004 Big Sky MVP Federico Ueltschi. Ueltschi is ranked 78th in the nation in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll.
Phillips also saw his No. 1 doubles tandem of Marek Gebicki and Braden Olson gain automatic entry to the 2004 NCAA Tennis Championship Doubles tournament, which is a first for MSU tennis.
Montana State will face the University of Southern California, Saturday, May 15 in the first-round of the NCAA Tennis Championships in Los Angeles.
