Bobcat Netters Reap Big Sky Awards; Ueltschi Named League MVP

“These honors are a great reward for an outstanding season,” said MSU men’s head coach Mike Phillips. “The all-conference teams are voted on by the league coaches and this speaks volumes for what our kids accomplished this season.”
Ueltschi, who becomes the first Bobcat men’s player to ever garner the Big Sky MVP award, is currently ranked 78th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. He is currently 28-7 overall heading into the NCAA Championships next Friday at the University of Southern California.
Also named to the Big Sky Conference First-Team for the Bobcats were Marek Gebicki, Tejeshwara Chigateri and Braden Olson. The first-team kudos is the second consecutive for Ueltschi and Gebicki. Ueltschi, Gebicki and Chigateri all notched 20-win seasons, while Olson, a junior from Missoula, notched an overall mark of 19-9 this spring.
For the Bobcat women, sophomore Vera Vasileva was named to the Big Sky Conference Second-Team, while transfer Ivette Duran garnered honorable-mention accolades.
“I’m excited for Vera (Vasileva) and Ivette (Duran),” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “We had a very young squad this season and these two athletes are playing an important role as we build towards the future.”
Sacramento State’s Margarita Karnaukhova was named the Big Sky women’s MVP.
