Jen Allen seems to be saving her best for last.
Montana State's senior thrower from Billings, who two weeks ago earned Big Sky Championships Outstanding Field Events Athlete honors, finished third in the hammer throw Friday afternoon. By finishing in the top five, Allen qualifies for the NCAA Championships beginning June 9 in Austin, Tex.
Allen's long-time running mate, Blake Jackson (sr., Glenrock, WY), finished his career by placing ninth in the shot put. Jackson's toss was 58-4.5, about a foot shy of his season's best mark. Tanner Rauk finished (so., Kalispell), finished tied for 17th with a mark of 53-3.
Allen led a young group of Bobcat women in the hammer throw. Ashley Jones (fr., Harlowton) finished 12th with a mark of 177-7, just five inches from her season's best mark set at the Big Sky meet two weeks ago. Mary Jo Kraft, a junior from helena, tossed the hammer 174-3, while freshman Karen Helvey (Thompson Falls) logged a mark of 165-7.
