The Bulldog paring held serve in the first set for a 6-4 victory, and then jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage in the second set. However, Gebicki and Olson fought back and broke serve to gain a 3-2 advantage, before Isner and Hodge closed out the match with a 6-4 victory.
“I’m proud of the way Marek and Braden competed,” said MSU head coach Mike Phillips. “(John) Isner is 6-foot-10 and has a huge serve. We did a good job and broke him once, but it was too much to overcome.
“Playing in the NCAA tournament, both with the team and in doubles, has been an incredible experience,” Phillips said. “We’ll use this as a springboard for next season.”
Gebicki and Olson finished their doubles season with a 15-7 overall mark. The duo is the first-ever from Montana State to play in the NCAA Doubles Championship. Both Gebicki and Olson were All-Big Sky Conference First-Team Selections this spring.
