Jackson Answers with Outstanding Weekend

A Bobcat thrower turned in an outstanding weekend in Utah, while an MSU distance runner shined in Oregon for the Bobcat track team.
Blake Jackson won the shot put with a season's best and finished sixth with a lifetime best mark at the Robison Invitational at BYU on Saturday. Jackson's winning shot put mark of 59-9 and his 184-7 mark in the hammer throw were both NCAA Midwest Regional qualifying marks.
Kevin Clary posted an NCAA Midwest Regional qualifying mark of 9:03.49, finishing fourth in the steeplechase at the Oregon Invitational. Tony Bachmann ran a personal best mark of 14:58.85 in the 5,000m at Oregon, as well.
Jackson's win was the only Bobcat victory at the high-powered Provo meet. Joel Walthall (200-5) and Amanda Emslie (140-6) each finished second in the javelin. Blake Barnes was third in the 110 hurdles (15.21), and Jen Allen was third in the discus (151-8), hammer throw (192-0), and shot put (47-9). Kelsey Kirkpatrick was third in the triple jump (38-3.75).
In Oregon late Saturday, Mayra Morgado ran a Big Sky qualifying time of 17:45.47 in the 5,000m, and Courtney Hugstad-Vaa ran the steeplechase in 11:27.94, a personal best and Big Sky qualifier.
