Montana State Volleyball Team Inks Minnesota Standout

“Laura (Viren) will be a great addition to our program,” Malauulu said. “We’re fortunate that the Bobcat volleyball program is at a level where we can sign a student-athlete with her abilities.”
Viren completed her senior season at Prior Lake High School with a career record 894 kills, including an all-time PLHS single-season mark of 422 kills. For her efforts, she was named to the Minneapolis Star Tribune all-second team and to the St. Paul Pioneer Press all-state third team.
A two-time Missota all-conference selection, Viren led the Lakers to a 17-10 overall mark last fall. In addition to her school-record career kill total, she also set new PLHS marks in digs (514) and aces (129).
“Laura is an athlete with a lot of court savvy,” Malauulu said. “She is an extremely talented blocker and will give us added depth at the outside hitter position.”
A two-time Prior Lake High School most valuable player, Viren played club volleyball for Minnesota One. As a member of Minnesota One, she was named to the all-tournament squads at the 2001 and 2003 national club championships.
She is the daughter of Bruce Viren and Cynthia Sellin.
