Three MSU Throwers Hit Regional Marks

Senior thrower Blake Jackson rounded off his qualifying triple and two other Bobcat throwers hit NCAA Midwest Regional Qualifying marks on Saturday at the Weber State Invitational.
Jackson qualified for the regional meet in the hammer throw with a toss of 183-6, and has now qualified in all three of his events (hammer, shot put, and discus). Jackson had company on Saturday. Hannah Furlong led a 1-2-3 MSU finish in the women's shot put with a qualifying mark of 47-5.25, and Amanda Emslie won the javelin with a regional mark of 150-11.
Jen Allen finished second in the shot put and fourth in the hammer throw for MSU. Kim Berg finished third in the javelin and Lindsey Gill fourth. Ashley Jones hit a personal best 169-5 in finishing fifth in the hammer throw. Jackson finished second and Tanner Rauk third in the shot put.
"Our throwers had a big, big day again," said MSU coach Dale Kennedy. "They weren't as hindered by the wind as some of the other events, and really competed well."
Ed Keefe won the pole vault with a jump of 15-6 in "really tough conditions," according to Kennedy. "I was surprised anyone vaulted that high." Michelle Hodge finished second in the women's vault (11-9).
Other MSU top finishers included Brad Benjaming in the 400 hurdles (second, 54.93, a personal best), Kelsey Kirkpatrick in the triple jump (37-7.75).
