Montana State Skiers Ready for NCAA Championship

The Bobcat alpine program will be represented by sisters Smaranda and Alex Munteanu. The duo from Stratton, Vermont, have been among the top giant slalom skiers in the NCAA West Region this winter. Smaranda Munteanu has a pair of top three finishes, while older sister Alex has also posted numerous top ten giant slalom finishes.
In the nordic races, Montana State will be led by Emily Robins in the freestyle and classic events. Robins, who has posted several top ten finishes in recent weeks, will be MSU best hope in the nordic races for All-America status.
The MSU men’s nordic contingent will be led by Chris Coe, who becomes the first male at Montana State to qualify for the NCAA Championships in almost 20 years. Coe is a freshman from Fairbanks, Alaska.
The NCAA Championships will open Wednesday with the women’s giant slalom at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men’s race at 1:45 p.m. The freestyle nordic events will be held Thursday with the women’s 5-kilometer race at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men at 11:30 a.m. The slalom races are set for Friday with the men beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women at 11:30 a.m. The championships will conclude with the nordic classical races on Saturday morning.
