Tracksters Aim for Qualifying Marks

Montana State's top track and field athletes will head to Seattle and Pocatello this weekend in an attempt to hit qualifying marks for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Three standout distance runners hope to capitalize on the advantage of running at sea level this weekend. Casey Jermyn, ranked 20th in the nation, will run the 5000 meters. Kevin Clary will attempt to qualify in the 3000. Ariana Lee, the MVP at last week's Big Sky Indoor Championships, will run the 5000 meters this weekend.
"I have a lot of confidence that Casey will run really well this weekend," said MSU coach Dale Kennedy. "He's going to need to run under 14 minutes, and he's really going to gun for the automatic mark at 13:52. Kevin Clary is going to run the 3k, which we think is his best race, and he has a good opportunity. Ari Lee doesn't have a provisional mark, but she certainly has earned the opportunity. We think she could have done it at the Big Sky meet last weekend if we'd have cut her loose instead of trying to run for points."
In addition, four Bobcats will compete in Pocatello, Idaho, this weekend. Ed Keefe will compete in the pole vault, Josh Henigman in the weight throw, Tanner Rauk in the shot put, and Jonathan Gibson in the 3000.
Both meets will be held Saturday. The Seattle meet will take place in the Dempsey Center on the Washington campus, while the ISU meet will be held in Holt Arena.
