Bobcat Women Chop Down ‘Jacks

The duo combined for 26 points and ten rebounds in the second half to lift the Bobcats to a 72-54 victory over Northern Arizona, Thursday night in the opening round of the Big Sky Conference tournament.
Hutchison ended the night with a game-high 20 points, while adding eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Stubbs scored all 12 of her points in the second stanza, and collected a game-high nine rebounds.
“It goes to heart,” said MSU head coach Robin Potera-Haskins. “Our seniors led the way and they weren’t going to be denied.”
Trailing 32-31 at the 16:19 mark of the second stanza, Montana State (15-13) went on a 23-7 run to take a 54-39 advantage following a Hutchison jumper with 9:04 remaining. Northern Arizona (12-16) couldn’t cut the deficit under double-digits for the remainder of the game.
The Bobcats made their run with Hutchison , Stubbs and three freshmen (Joanna Hixon, Alyssa Nelson and Scotta Morton) on the floor. Also in double-digits for the Bobcats were Nelson, with a career-high 11 points, Hixon 10 and Kati Burrows 10.
Burrows, a first-team All-Big Sky Conference selection, notched 10 points in the first half, before taking a hard charge from NAU’s Lacey Tolbert at the 1:10 mark. Burrows left the game with a concussion, and is questionable for the rest of the tournament.
Northern Arizona was led in the loss by Tolbert with 19 points, while Alyssa Wahl added 11 points.
For the game, MSU shot 48 percent from the field, including a red-hot 68 percent in the second half. The Bobcats limited the Lumberjacks to 36 percent from the field, including only 30 percent in the second half. MSU also held a 39-34 advantage on the boards.
The Bobcats will play No. 2 Idaho State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The other semifinal game will feature No.1 Montana and Eastern Washington.
