Bobcat weight thrower Blake Jackson hit the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the weight throw and the shot put, capping a solid weekend for Bobcat throwers at Idaho State's Mountain States Games in Pocatello.
Jackson "was phenomenal again," according to MSU coach Dale Kennedy. The senior from Glenrock, Wyo., won the weight throw with a mark of 61-7, and was second in the shot put with a mark of 60-7. Both marks were personal bests for the five-time Big Sky Champion.
"Blake had a great weekend, and led a really strong showing by our throwers," Kennedy said. "I thought all the kids competed well."
Josh Henigman finished second behind Jackson in the weight throw. Jen Allen finished second in the invitational shot put and third in the weight throw, while Lisa Lord was first in the open division weight throw, and Cara Greyn was second. Greyn won the open division shot put.
On the track, Casey Jermyn was outstanding, winning the men's 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Brandon Roosevelt was second in the 55, and fourth in the 200. Nick Green won the open division 800.
"We showed more improvement this weekend," Kennedy said of his team's third full weekend of the season. "I thought we competed a lot better than we did at Boise State (in the season opener). We always compete well at home, and I was happy to see us compete like that on the road."
