Jason Erickson jump shots and Sheila Hutchison's turnaround jumpers are worth more to Montana State University this season than just points on a scoreboard. Bozeman's Big R Ranch and Home Supply Store and Bobcat Athletics have teamed up to provide support for Montana State University's Renne Library.
For every point the Bobcat men's and women's basketball teams score during Big Sky Conference games this year, Big R Ranch and Home Supply will donate $1.25 to the MSU Library. The teams have combined to earn over $1,000 for the Library already this year.
John Murdoch of Big R Ranch and Home Supply said the program is a natural. "My personal interest in academics, and knowing that MSU has such a strong history in that area, makes this something I wanted to be involved in," he said. "Montana State has been so strong in both athletics and academics I thought it would be fun to combine the two in an activity like this. I've had former Bobcat great Candis Wilcox and current Bobcat Sheila Hutchison as employees at Big R Ranch and Home Supply and they have proven to be standouts both on the court and off."
Bruce Morton, Dean of MSU's Library, said the Big R is Reading Program is a positive for reasons that go beyond finances. "We're pleased to partner with the Athletic Department to advance what we can offer our student-athletes and all the other students as well," he said "It's a way to show the connection between what student-athletes do on the court and what happens in other areas of the University. Hopefully this will build bridges between Athletics and the University community at large, and this is something that John Murdoch believes in, too."
Big R Ranch and Home Supply will donate up to $2,500 to the MSU Library this season.
